What are the latest trends in Floriculture nationally as well as internationally? All trends start small, but once they mature, they might grow into new products that are used by large amounts of people. ASBINDO is always monitoring new trends and we would like to share them with you on this page.
Currently a new trend seems to emerge in the floriculture sector; the usage of plants with brighter and bolder colours.
Also pastels are still being used but now they are combined with bright colours resulting in a burst of beautiful colours & energy. For example, contrasting colors will be used: combinations of yellow-purple, orange–purple, red-orange-pink, etc. The accessories or supplementary materials of the arrangements are still natural material such as wood, stone, sands, fine rattan, woven water hyacinth stems, and so on using a variety of techniques.
This bright mix of colours and techniques has a more natural apperance, it provides an appropriate balance but at the same time makes the arrangements more dynamic.
Countries with four seasons usually have trends according to seasons such as:
Large trees and garden/potted plants are also still an important part in decorations. These create a feeling of real nature with plants that are still alive.

Empty bottles, bags, and all other container-like things frof other trash from your household can be re-used as containers for you ornamental plants and cut flowers. Thereby creating lovely unique floriculture decorations. Recycling object in this way is a good example of the currently Green trends. It fits a lifetstyle that minimally impacts the environment.
Large cities are getting more and more polluteded. In an attempt to reduce this pollution cities around the world are trying to become more green. Indonesia also recently declared several cities as Green City. A program will be developed to create more green open spaces as lungs on the city. Becoming more green is also seen as very important for the health of its inhabitants.
A relating floriculture trend that has been developed in big cities the last two decades is the roof garden. Garden roofs have several functions; they reduce air pollution and noise, they lower air temperature and they can help to conservate water. Besides they can be contribute to the beauty of the building and can add to the biodiversity of a large city (Green Rooftops, 2008; Holladay, 2006).
Types of plants used on roof gardens are grasses, shrubs, and several ornamental plants. The gardens also offer leisure areas for the inhabitants of cities. The development of rooftop gardens in Indonesia have not been so rapid, but more and more roofgardens are being installed. For example the public roofgarden on Plaza Indonesia.
